The Riverton Police Department is a professional agency that serves a daytime population of approximately fifteen thousand diverse citizens. We are a progressive agency of 26 sworn officers and 14 civilian employees.

The Riverton Police Department is a pro-active department dedicated to providing the best service possible to our community. We are a Community Oriented Policing agency, which strives to include the citizens by using their ideas, feedback and assistance in developing an adequate course of action in responding to the ever-changing police/community related problems that affect our community.

Police Officer Eligibility Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Pass the Riverton Police Department entry level written test
    And/Or
  • Be Peace Officer Standards & Training Certified or Certifiable
  • Participate in an Oral Board Interview
  • Pass a Criminal & Character Background Investigation
  • Pass a Drivers Record Inquiry
  • Pass a Psychological Examination
  • Submit to a Medical Examination
  • Meet Established Minimum Entry Level Physical Fitness Requirements


Salary
The current pay scale for a Police Officer ranges from $14.72 - $19.14 hourly, depending on experience.

Police Dispatcher Eligibility Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Participate in an Oral Board Interview
  • Pass a Criminal & Character Background Investigation
  • Pass Entry Level Dispatch Exam

The pay scale for a Police Dispatcher ranges from $12.69 - $16.69 hourly, depending on experience.

The Riverton Police Department Victim Assistance Program
The Riverton Police Department Victim Assistance Program was created to:

  • Help victims cope with the stress of victimization
  • Ensure victims receive the services they need
  • To serve as an advocate

If you have been a victim of crime, the Riverton Police Department Victim Assistance Program would like to help. The program offers free and confidential services to victims of all types of crimes occurring in Riverton & Fremont County.

These services include:

  • Information for newcomers to the criminal justice process
  • Attendance at court hearings with you or to represent you
  • Information about how the criminal case is progressing
  • Assistance with victim impact statements
  • Assistance with Wyoming Crime Victims Compensation Claim applications
  • Information about court-obtained protection from domestic violence and stalking
  • Emotional support & referrals to other services
  • Escort & support during interviews with criminal justice personnel

Court is held every Monday beginning at 9:00 AM. Trials are held on Thursdays beginning at 9:00 AM. Payments must be made to the Riverton Municipal Court and can be paid at the Court Clerk window located in City Hall or can be mailed to the above address.
