per day. At present, the incoming waste flow averages 1.8
million gallons per day. The plant was built in 1986 and
has averaged 95% removal of the incoming pollutants each
day. The by-product of the treatment process is class A
Biosolids (sludge). The Biosolids are then sold to the
public as a soil amendment for lawns and gardens. The last
three years, the Wastewater Treatment Plant has sold an
average of 250 cubic yards per year. To contact the Wastewater
Treatment Plant, call (307) 856-6712.

Water Treatment and Distribution
The water treatment system employs five people and consists
of a Water Treatment Plant, thirteen water wells, one
booster station, and five reservoirs. The
five reservoirs can store as much as five million gallons of water for
reserves. The Water Treatment Plant operates during peak
times of the year (May thru
Sept.). Its design capacity is 4 million gallons per day. The average production
during the summer peak usage is 3.5 million gallons per day. The plant
is a conventional plant with sedimentation and coagulation.
It has dual media
filters with air scour backwash system. It utilizes Activated Carbon for
taste and odor control, Potassium Permanganate algae control, Liquid Aluminum
Sulfate/Polymer mixture coagulation, and Sodium Hypochlorite for disinfection.
The water wells are located in various locations through out the City and
at the Airport. The wells are from 400 – 1300 feet deep and water is
pumped from depths of 300 – 800 feet. Each well produces an average
of 230 gallons per minute (some pump more, some pump less). These wells
are used primarily in the off peak season (Oct. thru Apr.) when the average
demand
on the system is about 1.6 million gallons per day. The booster station
pumps water from one of the reservoirs to maintain pressure in the system
when
the water wells are not running. To contact the Water Treatment Plant,
call (307) 857-6891.
Weed and Pest
The Weed and Pest Department is responsible for weed and mosquito control in
the City limits. To contact the Weed and Pest Department, call (307) 856-3687.
Mosquito Control
The following methods are used in controlling mosquitoes to reduce the chance
of getting bit by a mosquito infected by West Nile Virus:
- Mosquito fogging is done from May through September using vehicle mounted
fogging machines.
- In the month of May, killifish
are trapped and planted in various ponds to control the mosquito larva and
in turn reducing mosquitoes. These fish are
monitored and reports are given to the Wyoming Game & Fish periodically.
- Larvaside Pellets are used in storm drains
- Larvaside briquettes are used in all areas not suitable for killifish
Weed Control
Tractors, mowers, and weed eaters are used to mow all bike
paths, right-of-ways, City property, and snow dump areas
in the months of April through October. Weeds are also
sprayed on all lots, fields, streets, right-of-ways, water
wells, Airport perimeters, fences and City buildings. Weed
inspections are done on a daily basis from April through
October. When violations are spotted, the homeowner is
notified. Homeowners must abide by the City ordinance to help control weed growth on their property.
