The City of Riverton is producing a limited edition casting of 70 statues.  Proceeds from the sale of the statues will provide funding for ¾ life size versions to be placed at the cities three gateways.  The first location is along Highway 26 near the airport.  Help support our project and own this beautiful limited edition bronze statue.  Stop in at City Hall or Wind River Gallery to view and purchase your piece of regional western history.
“Rendezvous Trade Talks”.  A name befitting this piece of western art designed and produced by renowned local artist and sculptor, Mr. Gary Shoop.  Representing the 1838 Rendezvous held at the confluence of the Wind River and Little Wind Rivers near the Southeast corner of present day Riverton, the bronze cast statue is full of the spirit and ideals of the old West.  According to western historians, this particular rendezvous was the last of its kind and closed the chapter of open trade between Native Americans and mountain men.

Gary Shoop lives north of Riverton, Wyoming where he works out of an old log homestead. Originally a painter, Shoop began sculpting 30 years ago when he met and worked for noted sculptor Harry Jackson. It was his association with Jackson that allowed Shoop to make numerous working trips to Europe where he was able to participate in the process of lost wax bronze casting and see and study the art of the Old Masters. While his work includes a variety of subjects, the horse is clearly what Shoop enjoys sculpting the most. A one-and-a-half size equestrian monument stands at the High Plains Heritage Center in Spearfish, South Dakota, that gives testament to his passion.
